High accuracy three-axis fiber optic gyroscope with 0.5°/hr bias drift for precision inertial measurement applications.
Working Principle
This inertial angular rate sensor operates on the Sagnac effect principle, measuring carrier angular rate movement around the sensor's sensitive axis. The system utilizes a fiber optic coil as the angular rate sensitive unit with closed-loop detection circuitry.
Two counter-propagating laser beams experience differential phase shifts due to rotation, which are measured through interferometry to translate angular velocity into measurable interference patterns. The Sagnac effect strength is enhanced by the number of turns in the optical fiber coil.
