Stearic acid appears as white waxy crystalline dice with slight sheen. It is insoluble in water (0.00029 g/100ml at 20°C), slightly soluble in cold ethanol, and soluble in acetone, benzene, ether, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, sulfur dioxide, hot ethanol, toluene, and amyl acetate.
