Comparison of zinc die casting and aluminum die casting
To date, aluminum is the most commonly used alloy in die casting. The most common aluminum die casting alloys are A380 and A383. Both provide the best combination of material properties and castability. Aluminum alloy die castings are widely used in various industries. This alloy is often found in electronics, communication equipment, auto parts, gearboxes, lawn mower housings, hand and power tools, and many other products. Zinc and ZA alloys are usually used for smaller die castings or die castings that require thinner sections. Zinc alloys generally allow greater variations in section thickness and can maintain tighter tolerances. The impact strength of zinc die castings is higher than that of other common metal alloys. In addition, since zinc and ZA alloys require lower pressure and temperature compared to magnesium and aluminum alloys, the mold life is significantly longer and maintenance is relatively low.
