316 and 316L stainless steels are the second most commonly specified austenitic stainless steels after 304. These materials offer excellent general corrosion resistance, superior cryogenic toughness, and outstanding formability and weldability characteristics.
Enhanced Corrosion Resistance: Type 316 contains 2-3% Molybdenum in its chemical composition, providing superior resistance to specific corrosion types and enhanced overall corrosion performance. Often referred to as "marine grade" stainless steel, 316 demonstrates increased chloride corrosion resistance compared to 304, making it ideal for saltwater and marine environments.
