When the pressure drops to the cut-in level (100 psi), the governor induces the compressor to pump again. A safety valve is fitted in between the compressor and the first reservoir to protect the system from over-pressurization; it is set to open at 150 psi. A faulty compressor will result in a loss of air pressure in the brake system, causing the brake system to fail. When the pressure falls to a low level, a warning buzzer goes off or a mechanical "wig-wag" arm drops into the view of the driver.
