ASTM B-230 6201 Aluminium Conductor Alloy Reinforced Overhead Transmission

Constric-lay stranded cable ACAR is composed of strands of aluminum alloy 6201 and aluminum 1350-H19. In certain structures, the 6201 Alloy might be dispersed between the layers of 1350 Aluminum, while normally the 6201 Alloy strands form the core with the Aluminum 1350 strands around them. Similar to the galvanized steel core of ACSR, the Aluminum Alloy 6201 wires of ACAR provide a substantially better ampacity while structurally stiffening the conductor. ACAR conductors are stronger and have a greater ampacity than ACSR conductors for the same weight.

2. Construction

ACAR has aluminium 1350 H-19 wires concentrically stranded around a 6201-T81 aluminium alloy core. Typically, the 6201-T81 is the conductor core, but in certain designs, the 1350 H-19 and the 6201-T81 wires may be stranded in the same layer
