Applications:
Used as bare overhead conductor for primary and secondary distribution. Designed utilizing a high strength aluminum alloy to achieve a high strength-to-weight ratio; affords better sag characteristics. Aluminum alloy gives AAAC higher resistance to corrosion than ACSR.
The proportions of aluminum alloy and steel can be varied to obtain the relation between current carrying capacity and mechanical strength best suited to each application.
Generally, there is one aerial bare wire for each phase. For 220kV and above lines, phase splitting wire is adopted in order to reduce corona loss and corona interference due to large transmission capacity, that is, two or more wires are used for each phase. Adopting split wire can transmit large electric energy, and the electric energy loss is less, and it has better anti-vibration performance. Conductors are often subjected to various natural conditions in operation, and must have good conductivity, high mechanical strength, light weight, low price, strong corrosion resistance and other characteristics.
