Powered by a diesel engine or electric motor, the rotary table drives the drill rod and bit while the hydraulic system pushes the drill rod to feed. The drill bit cuts through formations while a mud pump injects mud/water to carry debris to the surface. A winch handles lifting/lowering of equipment.
