During operation, the pump is used for reverse circulation. Under atmospheric pressure, the circulating fluid flows from the sedimentation tank to the bottom of the well through the return ditch along the annular gap of the well. The rotary table drives the drill pipe to rotate the drill bit for drilling, while the mud pump's suction creates negative pressure to draw debris mud into the drill pipe's inner cavity and discharge it into the sedimentation tank.
High water head can cause mud leakage into the hole wall. Prevention methods include:
- Strengthening the retaining wall with thick mud or clay filling for slow deformation
- Repeatedly impacting the retaining wall with filled soil to infiltrate gravel and pebbles
- Sealing joint leaks with absorbent cotton and quick-drying cement
