Brief Introduction of  Geocell Confinement System

  Geocells are cellular confinement systems that were created as an easy and durable material that are used for stabilizing and protection. Cellular confinement systems effectively maintain the soil’s compaction, and, by doing so, create a stronger structure for both the infill and pavement. The cells’ three-dimensional, honeycomb design ensures that the Geocell is strong and durable. This format creates a structure that improves load distribution. The cell is made from a high density polyethylene (HDPE), which is used to stabilize weak or unsteady soil. That ability is a result of their ability to reduce lateral movement of soil particles while vertically loading on the contained infill.

Geocell Confinement System Characteristic

  Geocell greatly reduces erosion caused by weather and heavy or repeated traffic. Through the perforation mode of each unit and weld, the water is allowed to drain freely without flushing the material. Textured surfaces provide additional material retention. It is very suitable for the construction of erodible slopes and embankments, as well as driveways, roads, parking lots, playgrounds, trails, etc.

Laying method

Construction precautions.
① The maximum strength direction of the grid shall be consistent with the direction bearing the maximum stress.
② Direct driving of heavy vehicles on the laid geogrid shall be avoided.
③ The cutting and stitching amount of geogrid shall be minimized to avoid waste.
④ During construction in cold seasons, the geogrid becomes hard and easy to cut hands and rub knees.

Application:

  Typical uses of geocells include root protection, erosion control, retaining structures, temporary or permanent tracks, and composite structures when trenchless systems are specified. Geocells can also be used to reduce the overall construction depth, thereby reducing the cost of filling materials. The working principle of geocell is to limit the filling material and ensure the lateral diffusion of downward force from traffic, so as to greatly reduce the pressure on the subbase by distributing the load over a wider area.
