Organic Fertilizer Production Process
The complete process for converting food waste to organic fertilizer includes: separation and dehydration, crushing, drying, pelleting, cooling, and packaging. Food waste typically contains over 80% moisture content, which reduces to less than 60% after separation and dehydration. For uniform drying, the material is crushed and transported via air delivery system to the belt conveyor, then fed into the drying unit.

Operating Principles
The rotary dryer consists of a slightly inclined rotating cylinder with peripheral flights that lift, distribute, and transport material. These flights are customized for specific material handling characteristics, which may change during drying. The operational principle involves cascading wet material through a hot gas stream (co-current or counter-current), where the hot gas induces moisture evaporation. Heat transfer to the material and water vapor evaporation rapidly reduces gas temperature, resulting in low exhaust temperatures.
Dryer efficiency depends largely on the temperature differential between inlet and exhaust gases, while heat transfer rate is influenced by flight design and rotation speed. Drying time is critical as it governs the rate of water diffusion from the material's core to surface. For specialized applications, cruciform lifter configurations provide enhanced performance.
