Industrial rod mills utilize steel rods as grinding media in tumbling mills, providing efficient processing for materials that are finer than crusher output but coarser than ball mill products. These mills operate similarly to ball mills but employ long rods for grinding, maintaining optimal length-to-diameter ratios between 1.2 and 3.6 meters to prevent rod tangling.
Industrial Applications
Rod mills are extensively used across multiple industries including cement production, chemical processing, construction materials manufacturing, fire-resistant materials, fertilizer production, and porcelain and glass manufacturing.
Working Principle
Rod mills operate via external gear drives. Materials enter the crushing chamber through input hollow axes, where steel rods of various specifications perform the grinding. As the frame rotates, centrifugal force lifts the rods to specific heights before they fall to grind and impact the material. The horizontal cylindrical rotation device, powered by brim gearwheels, features two chambers with stage liners, ripple liners, and steel balls that generate the grinding force through impact and gravity.
