What is Food Grade Silicone?

As the name implies, silicone products can be directly in contact with food. Food grade silicone is the inorganic polymer colloidal material formed by condensation of silicic acid. The main ingredients is SiO2nH2O, non-toxic and odourless. The chemistry performance is stable. Under normal conditions, it does not react with any acid-base salts except caustic soda and hydrofluoric acid.

It's non-toxic, odourless, high transparency and anti-yellow. Soft, with good elasticity and no deformation. No cracking, with long service life, cold and high temperature resistance. With higher tear strength and superior electrical performance.

There are two main international standard test FDA and LFGB for Food Grade Silicone. FDA-compliant means passing the Code of Federal Regulations, specifically CFR21.177.2600, CFR21.177.1210.

Advantage of Food Grade Silicone O Rings

Heat Resistance: Silicone is with better heat resistance than rubber.

Food Grade Silicone O Rings can be used almost forever at 150° with no performance change. It can be used continuously for 10000 hours at 200° and for a period of time at 350°. It is widely used in heat resisting situations, such as hot water bottle sealing ring, heat resisting handle of pressure cooker ring etc.

Low Temperature Resistance: Lowest temperature resistance of rubber is -20℃-30℃, but Food Grade Silicone O Rings is still with good elasticity under -60℃-70℃. Some special formulations of silicone can also withstand extremely low temperatures. Such as low temperature silicone o rings.

Disadvantage of Food Grade Silicone O Rings

Food Grade Silicone O Rings is not recommended to be used in most thickened solvents, oils, thickened acids and diluted sodium hydroxide.
