ASU fiber optic cable, also known as mini ADSS fiber optic cable, is an outdoor overhead self-supporting dielectric cable that contains one loose tube which is filled with up to 24 optical fibers( max to 24 optical fibers in total). The fibers are protected from moisture by jelly and hydro-expandable material inside the loose tube.
It is all dielectric which has two FRP strength member as a traction element, providing pull strength and avoiding electrical discharges between connections. It is much easier and ligher to handle and install compared to other outdoor cable, eliminating the need to use strings or grounding. It’s widely used in FTTH fiber to the home networking.
