Product Description

A tie plate, also known as base plate or sole plate, which is a steel plate that used between the steel rail and railway sleeper. Tie plate basically has some holes and shoulder(s). But there is no shoulder in some types of tie plate. Rail tie plate usually has tapered side to improve the stability and reduce the twisting and torsion of rails. There are close relationship between rail and tie plate. Each tie plate is generally made for corresponding size of rail. In another words, the tie plate has to be matched with width of steel rail. As for the production process, tie plate can be made by three processing ways: hot-rolled, casted and forged.

The development of railroad tie plates

In traditional rail construction, rail workers firstly lay a bed of gravel or loose stone. Then they put short wooden beams, or rail ties on the top of stone which acts as a support for the steel rails. Steel rail spikes are driven through a flange along the base of the rail to fasten it to each tie.

By the turn of the 20th century, many railroad engineers have specified the use of tie plates on new lengths of rail track. Instead of fastening the rail track directly to the tie, the spike should be hit pass through the tie plate first, then into the end of each tie. While these tie plates are still found on railroads that use wooden ties, the use of concrete or composite ties in modern construction has reduced the need for tie plates.

As a professional manufacturer and supplier of rail fasteners in China, Gnee Rail can produce different types of railroad tie plates according to different standards, such as AREMA, BS, GB, UIC, DIN, and so on. In addition, we can produce customized products according to drawings and samples.
