Galvanized steel is designed to prevent corrosion and extend the service life of steel plates by coating the surface with a layer of zinc. Zinc-coated steel plates are called galvanized sheets, which can be categorized by production and processing methods:
- Hot dip galvanized steel: Thin plates are immersed in a molten zinc bath to create a zinc-coated surface. This primarily uses continuous galvanizing processes where steel plates are rolled continuously through the zinc plating tank.
- Alloying of galvanized steel: Produced by hot dipping, then immediately heated to about 500°C to form a zinc-iron alloy membrane. This type offers excellent coating properties and weldability.
Available thicknesses range from 0.18mm to 20mm, with 2mm being a common specification for hot dip galvanized steel sheets and metal rolls.
