ASTM A285 grade B is a type of ASTM A285 carbon steel. Cited properties are appropriate for the as-fabricated (no temper or treatment) condition. This specification covers low and intermediate tensile strength carbon steel plates produced as killed, semi-killed, capped, or rimmed steel. These plates are intended for fusion-welded pressure vessels. The maximum plate thickness under ASTM A285, for reasons of internal soundness, is 2 in. [50 mm] for all grades.
