System Limitations
- Limited to wastes with low organic concentrations (< 5%)
- Limited to wastes with very low inorganic concentrations (< 1%)
- Unable to remove highly soluble organics or low molecular weight compounds
- Systems cannot tolerate suspended solids in influent stream
- Does not effectively remove chloramines
- Adsorption efficiency depends on residence time and carbon bed condition
