The Penn State Particle Separator is designed to accurately measure particle size distribution in forage and total mixed rations (TMR) for improved ruminant nutrition management.

Operation Procedure
1. Stack separator boxes: upper sieve (19.0mm), middle sieve (8.0mm), lower sieve (1.3mm), solid pan
2. Place approximately 3 pints of forage or TMR on upper sieve
3. Shake horizontally 5 times, rotate quarter turn, repeat 7 times (total 40 shakes)
4. Record weights retained on each sieve for analysis
