1. Working Principle

Roots flowmeter is based on the volumetric measurement principle and belongs to the fixed-displacement flowmeter. A metering chamber is provided in the housing, in which there are one or two pairs of tangentially rotating Roots wheel rotors. Outside the housing of the flowmeter, a pair of transmission gears are installed coaxially with the Roots wheel, and the Roots wheel is linked by meshing with each other. When the fluid flows in, the Roots wheel starts to rotate under the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet. Taking a pair of Roots wheels as an example, the lower Roots wheel rotates counterclockwise under the pressure difference on both sides, serving as the driving wheel; the upper Roots wheel does not generate a rotational torque because the pressure on both sides is equal, but it rotates clockwise under the drive of the lower driving wheel. Each time a cycle is completed, the fluid volume of four crescent-shaped cavities surrounded by the gears and the housing wall will be discharged. This volume is the "circulation volume" of the flowmeter, and the total volume of the fluid is accurately measured by measuring the number of cycles.
