A radar level transmitter emits a narrow microwave pulse that propagates at the speed of light. Upon striking the measured medium's surface, part of the pulse energy reflects back to the same antenna. The time interval between transmission and reception is proportional to the distance from the antenna to the medium's surface, enabling distance calculation.
