Application:

1. In the diagnosis of early pregnancy

HCG with biological activity in the early pregnancy began to increase, doubling every 36-48 hours, reaching the peak at about 10 weeks of gestation, and then decreased to 20% of the peak level after 1-2 weeks, and then maintained at this level, slightly increased before delivery. If there is no placenta residue after delivery, it will drop to non pregnancy level about 2 weeks after delivery.

2.In the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy refers to the implantation of pregnant eggs outside the uterine cavity. The incidence of ectopic pregnancy in early pregnant women is 2% - 3%. Tubal pregnancy accounts for more than 90% of ectopic pregnancy, which is the first disease of maternal mortality in early pregnancy. Continuous determination of serum HCG is helpful to distinguish normal pregnancy from abnormal pregnancy. The lowest increase of serum HCG in normal intrauterine pregnancy at 48h interval depends on its initial serum HCG value.

If the increase range of serum HCG level in early pregnancy is lower than the minimum increase in 48 hours, abnormal pregnancy (ectopic pregnancy or early pregnancy abortion) should be highly suspected. 99% of normal intrauterine pregnancy serum HCG rise faster than the minimum increase.
