6. Professional FAQ
Q: Why are there no flutes on the second tap in the image?
A: That is a Form Tap. It doesn't cut; it displaces the material to form threads. It is the best choice for chipless tapping in ductile materials.
Q: Can I use the Spiral Point tap for a blind hole?
A: No. Because it pushes chips forward, the chips will clog at the bottom of a blind hole and likely snap the tap. Use the Spiral Flute version instead.
