Some assay methods are suitable for raw materials; others are more appropriate for finished goods. Raw precious metals (bullion) are assayed by an assay office. Silver is assayed by titration, gold by cupellationand platinum by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES).
