Boron is an essential micronutrient that stimulates plant vegetative development through cell division and supports nucleic acid synthesis. It plays a vital role in chlorophyll synthesis, sugar production, and transport. In flowering biology, boron enhances pollination by improving pollen germinability and pollen tube activity, reducing early fruit drop while increasing fruit formation and quality.

Boron deficiency causes significant problems during flower fertilization and increases early fruit drop. During sprout growth, it results in shortened internodes and the development of less resistant, asymmetrical leaves. In severe cases with fruit trees, it leads to sprout bifurcation, terminal bud death with subsequent secondary sprout emission, giving plants a shrubbier appearance. Fruits show evident necrosis, cracks, and splits. In tuber crops, deficiency manifests as gradual blackening of tubers and tap-roots internally.
