Overview of HbA1c
Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is a product of the combination of hemoglobin in human red blood cells with sugar in serum. The combination of blood sugar and hemoglobin is an irreversible reaction that produces hemoglobin A1c. Reactions occur in proportion to blood glucose concentrations and can last for about 120 days.
