NGAL overview

Gelatinase-associated lipid transporter (NGAL) is a small molecule protein expressed by neutrophils. NGAL is highly expressed in renal tubular epithelial cells and is released into the urine and blood within 2 hours after acute kidney injury. It has the characteristics of quick reaction, high specificity and little influence by other factors. Therefore, it can be used as a biomarker for early sensitive acute kidney injury and can also be used to predict the diagnosis of sepsis.
