β 2-Mg overview

β2-microglobulin is a small molecule of globulin produced by lymphocytes, platelets and polymorphonuclear leukocytes. The molecular weight is 11800, and it is a single chain polypeptide composed of 99 amino acids. It is widely found in plasma, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva and colostrum. In normal people, the synthesis rate of β2-microglobulin and its release from the cell membrane are fairly constant. β2-microglobulin can filter freely from the glomerulus, and 99.9% of β2-microglobulin can be absorbed in the proximal renal tubules, and is broken down and destroyed in the epithelial cells of renal tubules. Therefore, under normal conditions, the excretion of β2-microglobulin is very small.
