P Overview
Progesterone (P) is a very important progesterone synthesized in ovary, adrenal cortex and placenta. In non-pregnant women, the secretion of progesterone changes periodically in normal menstrual cycle under the influence of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). In pregnant women, progesterone is secreted from the luteum and gradually transferred to the placenta, which provides support and guarantee for the early growth and development of the fetus during pregnancy, and has a certain sedative effect on the uterus. Therefore, progesterone testing is mainly used to determine ovulation, progesterone treatment monitoring and early pregnancy status assessment.
