P Overview
Progesterone (P) is a very important progesterone synthesized in the ovary, adrenal cortex and placenta. In non-pregnant women, progesterone production changes periodically throughout the menstrual cycle due to the influence of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Pregnant women secrete progesterone from the corpus luteum, and gradually transferred to the placenta, to support and protect the early growth and development of the fetus during pregnancy, has a sedative effect on the uterus. So progesterone tests are used to monitor ovulation, progesterone treatment, and to determine early pregnancy status.
