MYO Overview

Myoglobin (MYO) is a hemoglobin that is present in cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle cytoplasm and is not present in smooth muscle. Myoglobin can be detected in the blood 1-2 hours after the onset of AMI, which is one of the earliest markers representing the elevation of myocardial injury. Myo is abundant in myocardium and skeletal muscle, and is quickly released into the blood during AMI. It is highly sensitive to AMI

The myoglobin molecule is a flat prism with a molecular size of about 4.5mm×3.5mm×2.5m. The polypeptide backbone in the molecule is composed of 8 straight a-helices of varying lengths. The longest helix contains 23 residues and the shortest 7 residues. Almost 80% of the amino acid residues in the molecule are in the α-helix region. . These 8 spirals are named A, B, C...H respectively. The corresponding non-helical region peptides are called NA (terminal section), AB, BC,...FG, GH, HC (C-terminal section). Therefore, each residue has a sequence number calculated from the N-terminus. In addition to the position in each helical segment, an additional number is given. For example, the 93rd His is coded as F8, which means that His is at the 8th position of the F helix.
