H-FABP Overview

H-FABP is a small cytoplasmic protein mainly present in the cytoplasm of cardiac muscle. When the heart muscle is damaged, it is quickly released into the bloodstream, cleared from the plasma by the kidneys, and then returned to normal. AMI starts to rise 30 minutes after onset, peaks about 6-8 hours, and returns to normal 20 hours later. The sensitivity of H-FABP in the early diagnosis of AMI was much higher than that of MYO, CTN and CK-MB, and the specificity was higher than that of MYO. H-FABP is more useful for early diagnosis of chest pain within 3 hours.
