SAA Overview
Serum amyloid A (SAA) is an acute-phase-reactive protein that is secreted by the liver.When viral or bacterial infection occurs, SAA increases significantly within 3 to 6 hours, which can increase hundreds of fold in the acute phase.The SAA has a short half-life and decays rapidly during recovery.It is more sensitive than the CRP.The combination of the two can better distinguish between infection types and improve the diagnostic efficiency of viral infection.
