SMD 3-electrode 3-pin radial ceramic gas discharge tube (GDT) model 8TL230M, designed for robust overvoltage protection in communication equipment and electronic systems.
Operating Principle
GDT surge arrestor devices operate on the gas-physical principle of highly effective arc discharge. Essentially a voltage-dependent switch, the GDT maintains high impedance in off-state until voltage exceeds the device's sparkover threshold. At this point, the gas becomes fully ionized and conduction occurs within microseconds. During arc-over, the GDT exhibits low impedance crowbar characteristics, effectively limiting overvoltage to safe levels and shunting follow current away from downstream components. When the surge event subsides, the GDT automatically resets to high impedance state.
