What does decanting separate?
Decantation separates a liquid layer from a mixture, leaving solids or other liquids behind. A decanter, often glassware with a wide base, is used to perform the decantation process. Decantation works well for separating immiscible liquids, like oil and water, by pouring off the top layer.

The bowl and screw make high-speed rotation with a certain differential speed between them. The materials enter the bowl from the feed tube. Under centrifugal force, the liquid of higher specific weight accumulates on the bowl's inner walls and is discharged through the centripetal pump or overflow plate. Lighter liquids form an inner ring and are discharged from the overflow channel. The spiral material pusher continuously moves solids to the bowl's taper end where they're discharged from the residue outlet after drying.
