Niobium absorbs gas, is used as a degassing agent and is a good superconductor. Used to be called columbium. In 1801, Charles Hatchet isolated a new element oxide from niobium collected in the British Museum in London, and named the element columbium. Another new element, tantalum, was discovered in tantalite by A.G. urkberg of Sweden in 1802. Because the two elements are so similar in nature, many people think they are the same element. Because it was so similar to tantalum, he was confused at first. In 1844, Germany H. Roser made a detailed study of many niobites and tantalites, isolating the two elements and clarifying the facts. Charles Hatchet eventually named the element after the mythical goddess Niobe. Historically, niobium was originally called columbium by the name of the niobium ore in which it is located. The content of niobium in the earth's crust is 0.002%, the natural reserves of niobium in the earth's crust are 5.2 million tons, and the recoverable reserves are 4.4 million tons. The main minerals are niobite, pyroclast and black gold ore, yttrium niobium, titanium, niobium, calcium and cerium ore.
