State-of-the-art catalyst for the reaction between the anode and cathode of a hydrogen fuel cell-a catalyst made of platinum nanoparticles and platinum alloys. In addition, platinum nanoparticles have excellent catalytic performance and can be used as electrochemical sensors and biosensors to detect glucose, hydrogen peroxide, formic acid and other substances.

Platinum on carbon is used for catalytic hydrogenations in organic synthesis. Examples include carbonyl reduction, nitro compound reduction, secondary amine production via nitrile reduction, and the production of saturated heterocycles from their respective aromatic compound precursors.
