This part of ISO/IEC7816 specifies the information exchange between integrated circuit cards and terminal power supplies and interface devices. It also includes signal rates, voltage levels, current values, parity conventions, operating procedures, transmission mechanisms, and communication with the card. It does not include information and directive content, such as publisher and user identities, services and restrictions, security features, logging, and directive definitions.
