Description

Petroleum coke is a hard solid petroleum product in black or dark gray with a metallic luster and porosity. It is a carbon material composed of microscopic graphite crystals in the form of granules, columns or needles. Petroleum coke is a hydrocarbon with 90-97% carbon and 1.5-8% hydrogen, and also contains nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur and heavy metal compounds. The main uses of petroleum coke are pre-baked anodes and anodic pastes for electrolytic aluminum, carbonizers for the carbon industry, graphite electrodes, silicon and fuels for smelting industry.

Calcined petroleum coke recarburiser is produced in a forging smelting furnace at about 1500 °C with a carbon content of about 98.5%. It is used as a carbon refining agent in the metallurgical industry.
