Description

Graphitized Petroleum Coke (GPC) is a high-quality carbon additive used in steelmaking and other industrial applications. It is produced by heating petroleum coke to high temperatures in the absence of oxygen, which causes the volatile matter and impurities to be driven off and the carbon content to be increased. The resulting product is a highly crystalline form of carbon known as graphitic carbon.

The main use of GPC is as a carbon additive in steelmaking. It is added to the molten steel in the form of carbon pellets or briquettes to increase the carbon content of the steel and improve its strength, hardness, and other mechanical properties. GPC is also used as a fuel in the production of iron and steel, as well as in the production of other metals, such as aluminum.
