Ferrotitanium is used as a deoxidizer and degasser. The deoxidizing ability of titanium compares favorably with silicon and manganese, and it can reduce steel ingot segregation, improve the quality of the ingots, and increase the yield of finished products.

Ferrotitanium is used as an alloying agent. It is a main raw material for special steel, which can enhance the strength, corrosion resistance, and stability of steel. It is widely used in stainless steel, tool steel, etc., and can also improve the properties of cast iron.

Ferrotitanium is used in the foundry industry to improve the wear resistance, stability, and workability of cast iron. It is also used as a coating material for ferrotitanium and titania calcium type welding rods.

Applications

1. Used in steelmaking as a cleansing agent for iron and steel. The titanium is highly reactive with sulfur, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, forming insoluble compounds and sequestering them in slag, and is therefore used for deoxidizing, and sometimes for desulfurization and denitrogenation.
2. In steelmaking, the addition of titanium yields metal with finer grain structure.
3. Ferro Titanium powder can be used as a fuel in some pyrotechnic compositions.
