Silicon Metal
Metallic silicon, also known as crystalline silicon or industrial silicon, is primarily used as an additive in non-ferrous alloys. It is produced by smelting quartz and coke in an electric arc furnace, with the main component, silicon, accounting for about 98% of its content (in recent years, metallic silicon with a Si content of 99.99% is also included), and the remaining impurities include iron, aluminum, calcium, etc.
The smelting of metallic silicon is an energy-intensive process. China has a long history of producing metallic silicon.
