Is Vanadium Stronger Than Steel? This is a common point of confusion. Pure vanadium metal is not stronger than steel. It is actually fairly soft and ductile in its pure form.
The key is that vanadium is a powerful alloying element. When added in small quantities (often just 0.05% to 0.15%) to steel, it forms ultra-hard vanadium carbides that make the steel much stronger, harder, and more wear-resistant than it would be otherwise. So, it's the vanadium-enhanced steel that is stronger, not the pure vanadium metal itself.
