1. Core: The core of the cable is usually composed of multiple optical fibers, which are the core components for transmitting optical signals.
2. Tubes: The optical fibers are placed in high-modulus plastic tubes, which provide protection and support. These tubes are filled with a waterproof compound to prevent water ingress.
3. Center reinforcement: A metal reinforcement is placed in the center of the cable to increase its mechanical strength.
4. Strands: The tubes (and filling ropes) are wound around the center reinforcement to form a circular core.
5. Jacket: The cable is coated with a layer of plastic jacket, usually polyethylene, to provide insulation and protection.
6. Steel wire strands: Steel wire strands are integrated with the cable to provide additional tensile strength, making it suitable for self-supporting overhead installations.
