Gabion Wire Mesh Introduction:

Our Gabion Baskets are made from Class A galvanized mild tensile steel wire in accordance with the SANS 675 specification.

Our mesh is hexagonal in shape meeting with the 80×100 mm mesh aperture for gabions with a mesh wire diameter of 2.7mm and selvedge wire of 3.4mm diameter.

Heavily zinc-coated steel wire conforming to ASTM A 641, Class 3 coating, soft temper;
Zn-5Al-MM-Coated steel wire conforming to ASTM A 856/856M, Class 3, soft temper;
The same type of metallic-coated steel wire as above, but with an additional PVC coating extruded onto the metallic-coated steel wire;
l Aluminum-coated steel wire conforming to ASTM A 809, soft temper;
The most popular wire diameter for gabion baskets is 2.7mm, 2.2mm for revet mattress.

Gabion Wire Mesh  Feature:

1. Gabion mattresses are environmentally friendly products. The blending of Gabion mattress structures into the environment is rapid and pleasing. The voids in the rockfill become progressively filled with silt, promoting vegetation growth which is essential to the preservation and maintenance of the ecological balance of the surrounding environment.

2. The woven mesh system has the capability of withstanding unexpected and/or localized stresses due to ground settlements and scour by deflection while maintaining its structural integrity.

3. Permeability The stone fill allows the water to seep through the structure while retaining the soil, therefore no additional drainage is required to relieve the hydrostatic pressures.

4. Low cost, does not require skilled labor because they are very easy to build. Standard construction equipment can be used. Structures can be built in stages, if necessary, and baskets can be prefilled and launched to enable the installation under water.

This is a mattress shaped version of the gabion used mainly for erosion control when the retaining properties of box gabions are not required. Their strength lies in their double twisted hexagonal mesh of steel wire which is reinforced by selvedges of heavier wire running along the edges.
