Does galvanized steel rust under water?
The bond that forms between the steel and zinc when materials are hot-dip galvanized is self-healing. This means that, when the zinc coating comes into contact with water, it reacts by building up extra protection for itself. This protection increases its rust and corrosion resistance.
Can you weld galvanized steel?
Galvanized steels are welded easily and satisfactorily by most commonly practised welding techniques. Closer control of welding conditions than for uncoated steel is usually necessary but procedures are simple and well established.
What is galvanized metal good for?

How can you tell if steel is galvanized?
You can tell that metal is galvanized when it has a pattern to it that is known as a spangle pattern. A spangle pattern almost looks like someone dipped a sponge in gray paint and then sponge-painted the metal. You'll notice darker and lighter spots, much like you would see when a wall is sponge painted.
