SA285 is a pressure vessel carbon steel plate used in applications that need low to moderate tensile strength. This grade is used to make storage tanks and low-pressure, temperature-controlled containers.
A285 is a carbon steel plate that meets the criteria outlined in the ASTM A285/A285M standard. This standard applies to pressure vessel carbon plates with tensile strengths ranging from low to intermediate and is designed for fusion-welded pressure vessels.
A285 steel plates are largely utilized in the manufacture of boilers, storage tanks, and other high-temperature equipment. These plates are offered in three grades: A285 Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C. Each grade has a unique chemical composition and mechanical qualities that guarantee it is suitable for a variety of pressure vessel applications.

• Tensile: 45 ksi to 65 ksi
• Yield: 24 ksi
• Elongation: 27% in 8”, 30% in 2”
Mechanical Properties A285 Gr B:
• Tensile: 50 ksi to 70 ksi
• Yield: 27 ksi
• Elongation: 25% in 8”, 28% in 2”
Mechanical Properties A285 Gr C:
• Tensile: 55 ksi to 75 ksi
• Yield: 30 ksi
• Elongation: 23% in 8”, 27% in 2”
