About Water Pump

The water pump casing is made of cast iron or cast aluminum. The cast iron casing has a thick wall and large mass. With the increase in the requirements for lightweight engines, only some large engines still use water pumps with cast iron casings. Many cast irons also have partial water channels and thermostable installation chambers, which further increases the weight of the shell. The new water pump now uses a cast aluminum shell, and the size of the shell is getting smaller and smaller. The pump shaft is supported on the water pump housing through bearings, which are important parts of the water pump. A considerable part of water pump failures are caused by bearing damage.
