Kobe Bryant (August 23, 1978-January 26, 2020), an American professional basketball player and shooting guard. He has played for the NBA Los Angeles Lakers since 1996 and is the son of former NBA basketball player Joe Bryant.
Kobe is the NBA's first high school guard and helped the Los Angeles Lakers win 5 NBA championships. He is the youngest 30,000-pointer in NBA history. He became NBA scoring champion twice, NBA Finals MVP twice, NBA MVP of the year, 15 consecutive NBA All-Star games, two Olympic gold medals, and he was crowned the first "Iron King" in history on November 12, 2014. On December 15, 2014, Bryant's career total score surpassed Michael Jordan to rise to the third place in history. On April 14, 2016, Bryant officially retired after his NBA career bid farewell to the Jazz at home. On December 19, 2017, the Staples Arena held the retirement ceremony of Kobe's jersey.
On March 5, 2018, Kobe Bryant's retired short film "Dear Basketball" won the 90th Oscar for "Best Animated Short Film". On October 31, Kobe Bryant became the global ambassador for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. On June 20, 2019, Kobe's fourth daughter was born, named Capri Kobe Bryant.
On January 26, 2020, Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas at the age of 41; on February 7, local time, Kobe Bryant's body was buried, and his family held a private funeral for him.
