Cubic Boron Nitride, abbreviated as CBN or CBN. Cubic boron nitride was found in nature in 2009 by an international team of geologists from the United States, China and Germany and named Qingsongite. Previously, the mineral could only be synthesized in the laboratory. In 2009, scientists from the University of California, Riverside and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, along with counterparts from Chinese and German institutions, found the mineral in chrome-rich rocks of ancient oceanic crust about 306 kilometers underground in the mountains of the southern Tibetan Plateau in China. Crystals form at temperatures of about 1,300 degrees Celsius and pressures of 118,430 atmospheres.
